About the Organisation

Lighthouse Relief Hellas is the Greek registered branch of the Swedish NGO Lighthouse Relief. Our teams of skilled, international staff and volunteers provide emergency relief to refugees that arrive on the Greek island of Lesvos, and services in refugee camps in mainland Greece. Our branch ECO Relief on Lesvos focuses on restoring the shoreline on Lesvos and other local projects to support the island. Our ambition is to find a response that simultaneously improves the conditions for both refugees and local actors.

Lighthouse Relief Hellas undertakes all the activities of Lighthouse Relief in Greece: programming, humanitarian response, advocacy and fundraising. As the national branch of an international NGO, Lighthouse Relief Hellas is present every day on the field in Greece, but also plays a strategic and important role in campaigns and advocacy for our beneficiaries internationally.

Finance Officer (National Contract)

Location: Athens
Contract: National contract , minimum 6 months with possibility to extend
Reports to: Country Director

Summary of Position:

To provide efficient financial services to all Lighthouse Relief Hellas operations in Greece and to ensure a robust financial business system and an effective approach to financial management, control and reporting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure and maintain a high level financial business system
  • Prepare monthly budgets and monitor expenses versus projects and submit monthly expenditure reports
  • Support admin functions at field level and provide effective cash transfer
  • Ensure a proper cash management system and reconciliation of petty cash
  • Manage and prepare the monthly payroll
  • Provide necessary financial documentation to accounting on a regular basis and support during annual audit
  • Prepare monthly and interim financial reports for grantees and donors
  • Monitor grant budgets to ensure compliance with donor requirements
  • Manage procurement of goods and services in accordance with LHR Hellas procurement policy
  • Negotiate and prepare contracts with local vendors
  • Keep track and maintain an updated inventory of LHR fleet, equipment and assets

Qualifications

  • Degree in Finance/Financial Management/Accounting
  • Minimum two years working experience in financial management. Experience in preparing project budgets and processing invoices, receipts and tracking petty cash expenses
  • Prior working experience with international donor funded organisation
  • Experience in financial grants management and donor reporting
  • Excellent communication, analytical, organisational and interpersonal skills.
  • Fluent working proficiency in English and Greek
  • Good knowledge in the Greek financial system, local laws and regulations

People & Organisation Development Manager

Location: Athens

Summary of Position

The People & Organisation Development Manager will contribute to LHR’s mission through effective HR strategy building, recruitment management, capacity building and organisational development support.
The POD Manager reports to the Country Director and will be based in Athens, Greece.

Key Responsibilities

  • Continue the development and implementation of a regional LHR HR strategy as well as ensure compliance with existing policies throughout the organisation.
  • Manage recruitment processes in collaboration with program managers; ensuring high standards in recruiting, orientation, compensation, contracting and documenting procedures.
  • Continuously review and update job descriptions and post vacant positions.
  • Compile shortlists, conduct interviews, reference- and background checks and make offer of employment to candidates, with approval from CD and Program Managers.
  • Develop and maintain a well-organized employee info database, ensuring all necessary documents are filed and monitored including: contracts, code of conduct, job description, holidays and sick leave requests. Keep track of contract end dates and ensuring new contracts are provided.
  • Ensure harmonious relationships and effective communication between management and staff by undertaking necessary consultations with staff on personnel issues.
  • Assist PMs in identifying needs for staff training and development, contacting suitable trainers and service providers.
  • Support the Head Volunteer Coordinator with LHR Volunteer Program development tools.
  • Contribute to preparation of the monthly Payroll to ensure it is updated and accurate.  
  • Support and assist the Country Director in organizational and branch development, reporting, planning, preparation for meetings and trainings.
  • Assist in the implementation of organizational development activities and other duties as required by Country Director; within the capacity of the POD Manager.

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL

  • University degree with a focus on human resources management and/or business administration or with training/further education in the respective field
  • Proven track record and strong skills in HR administration and people management; minimum two years of professional experience
  • Experience in developing HR systems, policies and procedures, preferably in the context of an international organisation
  • Knowledge in humanitarian work and policies
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to maintain effective relations in a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary environment
  • Experience in Organizational Development, preferably from an NGO or Non Profit Organisation
  • Strong guidance, counseling and negotiation skills with sensitivity
  • A flexible approach to managing and prioritizing multiple tasks in a fast paced environment

Communications Officer

Location: Greece

Summary of Position:

The main external and internal communications tasks of the Communications Officer are LHR's social media and blog platforms, press, internal newsletter and creating and updating media and communications documents, policies and guidelines.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The responsibilities of this position are:

  • Part time being on the field, proactively and independently generating stories and content for our social media
  • Part time being in the office, handling communications administration
  • Manage the communications volunteer applications and the communications volunteers in different locations
  • Managing the social media channels
  • Working with press and media relations on the field and in the office
  • Managing internal media enquiries and the internal newsletter
  • Work on other specific assignments in text, photo and video for our webpage, social media, internal and external documentation
  • Gathering useful material from other volunteers
  • Organizing and categorizing Lighthouse Reliefs documentation
  • Assist the Head of Communications with other communication, media and fundraising tasks
  • Manage any volunteers assigned to support the Communications Officer

Campaign Officer

Location: Athens, with field visits

SUMMARY OF POSITION

Our organisation is still largely funded by private donations and we also want to raise awareness on the situation for refugees arriving and stranded in Greece. Preferably, the Campaign Officer will be based in Athens but for this position, it is possible to work from other locations after an initial period in Greece. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The responsibilities of this position are:

  • Plan and execute campaigns for Lighthouse Relief together with the Communications team, including social media updates, newsletters, campaign videos etc
  • Fundraising
  • Proactively working with media relations and public relations
  • Marketing of our Upcycling project
  • Manage any volunteers assigned to support the Campaigns Officer

Project and Volunteer Coordinator

SUMMARY OF POSITION

We are currently seeking two Project and Volunteer Coordinators to manage volunteer recruitment and project administration in our sites. In this role you will be responsible for all aspects of our volunteer program, including the application process, orientation, support, scheduling and team-buildings. It also includes logistics, some procurement and project administration. 

This role is ideal for someone interested in gaining more experience in the field. The Project and Volunteer Coordinator reports to the Regional Coordinator. 

The length of the position is for a minimum of three months, with the possibility to extend.

This is a volunteer position, but some support is provided for accommodation and living expenses.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the recruitment process and orientation of new volunteers
  • Serve as the point of contact for all incoming volunteers, and assist them in getting settled
  • Work with Project Managers to plan and schedule shifts and ensure volunteer coverage at all field sites
  • Serve as the focal point for feedback from volunteers throughout their time with Lighthouse and support them in their role, enabling people to work to the best of their ability
  • Work to improve the general volunteer experience;
  • Administration including, but not limited to, logging on-site donations, uploading receipts of monthly expenses and petty cash handling and reimbursement.
  • Assist in purchasing and transport/housing logistics for staff, ensuring the budget is being followed.
  • Assist the Regional Coordinator in the field when needed
     

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED

  • Studies in social sciences, development studies, HR or a related field – or minimum two years working experience in a related field
  • Exceptional English written and oral communication skills

Female Friendly Space Manager

This position is currently filled in all of our locations, but we still take applications for the next time we will recruit.

When living in a refugee camp, women have limited spaces to find relief from their household responsibilities. Women become more isolated and prone to become subjects of sexual violence and harassment. Our response takes place mainly at our Female Friendly Space (FFS), where women and girls can feel physically and emotionally safe.


SUMMARY OF POSITION

The FFS Manager is responsible for ensuring a safe and effective implementation of our program based on a GBV approach. The FFS Manager coordinates and oversees the daily activities in the FFS, as well as volunteer schedules and is also responsible for monitoring of the program activities and reporting. We require a leader who knows how to work in a team with excellent interpersonal skills; a creative and proactive person who can transmit the Lighthouse Spirit into our projects with the refugee communities. The FFS Manager will be based in one of our camps in the Epirus region in northern Greece and report directly to the Regional Coordinator.

The length of the position is for a minimum of three months, with the possibility to extend.

This is a volunteer position, but some support is provided for accommodation and living expenses.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Act as focal point for the FFS area, ensuring a safe space and empowerment for women and girls
  • Lead and supervise the team of volunteers in the FFS
  • Implement and develop psychosocial activities
  • Ensure participation of all women in FFS activities and outreach, especially among camp minorities and those most at risk
  • Act as mediator to build good relationships with the community and other NGO:s and actors on site
  • Collaborate with protection agencies active in camp to ensure a proper referral of potential GBV cases
  • Maintain monthly inventory and ensure replacements are made.
  • Manage the monthly budget for the FFS.
  • Adhere to safeguarding measures, Sphere Standards and IASC Guidelines for integrating GBV in humanitarian action
  • Work with the Volunteer Coordinator to screen and brief volunteers
  • Prepare monthly reports for donors on FFS activities.
     

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED

  • Minimum one year of experience working directly with women and girls, providing psychosocial support activities
  • Background in GBV in Emergencies, women’s rights or psychosocial support
  • Knowledge and experience implementing international standards in humanitarian action
  • Experience working as a team leader with strong interpersonal, communication- and coordination skills
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Excellent project management skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office

Regional Coordinator

Lighthouse Relief Hellas (LHRH) is a humanitarian organisation providing initial assistance to people arriving by boat and restoring the environment on Lesvos, and supporting the health and wellbeing of those residing in refugee camps on mainland Greece. 

We are currently looking for a future, dedicated regional coordinator to provide strategic direction and leadership to all staff and volunteers working within one of our regions.
 

SUMMARY OF POSITION

The regional coordinator will be based in Greece and report to the country director.

The regional coordinator provides leadership to and manages the LHR team, ensures they adhere to protocols, acts as a focal point for LHRH operations in the region, manages the site finances, ensures it is in line with the approved budget, collaborates with the country office on strategy, and liaises with the community and other actors at the site. 
 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide leadership to the LHR team to ensure all members act in line with the vision, strategy and core values of the organisation, which are: empowerment, dignity and respect for our service users
  • Ensure all staff and employees strictly adhere to LHR protocols and standards
  • Work with the country office to develop and implement strategies, projects and policies
  • Lead teams in implementing LHR programming
  • Represent LHR in all relevant meetings with partners, donors, and other stakeholders
  • Report to the country office on all budgetary and financial matters
  • Act as a key person for liaison and focal point for LHRH.
  • Manage LHRH’s operations, ensuring its smooth running, including in terms of staffing, scheduling, day-to-day activities, procurement of supplies and physical infrastructure
  • Manage the budget for the site and ensure that spending is in line with it
  • Oversee camp coordination and activities supported by LHRH
  • Attend all meetings to ensure a clear channel of communication with other actors at the site location, including community leaders, NGOs, officials and the military
  • Manage communications with on site donors as well as with LHRH Grants Manager
  • Submit relevant data regarding operations at the end of each week to the country director for reporting to the Lighthouse board

IYCF Supervisor

(Breastfeeding specialisation preferred)

Our Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) Project is part of our Sexual and Reproductive Health Program. The IYCF project focus on increasing support and information on breastfeeding. We also provide extra nutrients to pregnant and breastfeeding women with infants up to 24 months. 

We are now looking for a dedicated IYCF Supervisor who will also act as a skilled Breastfeeding Specialist to join our team and lead our IYCF Project.
 

SUMMARY OF POSITION

The IYCF Supervisor will be based in Greece.

The IYCF Supervisor coordinates and oversees the daily activities in the mother-and-baby area (MBA); supports and promotes breastfeeding among antenatal and breastfeeding women; holds information thematic sessions with women and girls on breastfeeding support and practices, manages the nutrition distribution for the pregnant and breastfeeding women including the IYCF budget; maintaining the overall project management for the IYCF Project.

The IYCF Supervisor is also responsible for conducting monitoring and evaluation of the project.
 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain the mother-and-baby area (MBA) to promote breastfeeding with appropriate messaging and activities, including holding thematic information sessions.
  • Identify women struggling to breastfeed to better support their needs 
  • Provide leadership, guidance and direction to general IYCF volunteers
  • Ensure good cooperation and communication with camp residents
  • Liaise with relevant partner organisations on site
  • Identify and refer residents at-risk of gender-based violence to the Protection Coordinator.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Qualified breastfeeding support worker / counsellor / educator
