Employment and education Integration support

How Lighthouse Relief supports long-term social and economic integration for refugees

Lighthouse Relief’s new integration-focused project in Corinth provides essential support to refugees and asylum seekers navigating Greece’s complex administrative and employment systems. Twice each week, our team offers hands‑on assistance with the documents and processes required to access safe, formal work—including obtaining a tax number and social security number, opening a bank account, preparing CVs, and searching for employment opportunities. For many camp residents, these steps present major barriers to restarting their lives in Greece: the systems are difficult to navigate, language obstacles are significant, and people seeking refuge are often vulnerable to exploitation, misinformation, and unsafe working conditions. By helping individuals overcome these hurdles, the project strengthens not only their access to employment but also their ability to secure healthcare, housing, education, and greater stability for themselves and their families.

This support is delivered in partnership with Meraki, the only other organisation offering social‑work‑focused services in the area, who do not have the capacity to meet demand for these services. Sessions take place at the Corinth Community Centre, located within walking distance of Corinth Refugee Camp, ensuring accessibility for people who may otherwise struggle to reach services. Through this project, Lighthouse Relief is filling a critical gap in protection and integration support, empowering people seeking refuge to build safer, more independent, and self-determined futures in Greece.

What Sets Us Apart

People-First Approach

Lighthouse Relief designs integration services that meet people where they are. Our approach prioritises safety, trust, and agency, ensuring that administrative and employment support is delivered in a way that respects each person’s lived experience and reduces the stress of navigating unfamiliar systems.

Filling critical gaps

The community in Corinth has highlighted a need for additional consistent, practical support in organising essential documents, finding employment, and navigating complex systems. By offering tailored, step‑by‑step assistance in English and Arabic we help people overcome barriers that often prevent them from securing safe work, healthcare, and housing.

Capacity-building partnerships

We work alongside an existing local NGO— Meraki—to expand the reach of services available to camp residents. We collaborate to strengthen community infrastructure, ensuring that more people can access reliable, long‑term support within walking distance of the camp.
